Und jetzt eine Biographie auf Englisch...
Hallo! Ich heisse Frau Amy DiFazio...
My name is Amy DiFazio and this is my eighteenth year teaching German at Pennsbury. My experience at Pennsbury didn't start after I graduated college. Back in the eighth grade, at the old William Penn Middle School, I was a quiet, shy new student who transferred in from Florence, NJ. Because of my late enrollment, I was put in German for my foreign language of study, despite my preference being French. Things have a funny way of working out.
It didn't take long for the zany Herr Gutz (aka Professor Wienerschneider) to make German my favorite subject! During my high school years I was also inspired by my art and English teachers. In these classes, some of my best friends and memories were made. I owe a lot of gratitude to Herr Gutz, Mr. Barto and Dr. Waskie, who creatively and enthusiastically presented their content; they were instrumental in my decision to major in education. And, so my excitement for learning and later teaching were both inspired by them. Being involved with Pennsbury's Foreign Language Club and participating in Pennsbury's summer school abroad exchange with Caecilienschule in Oldenburg, Germany were two positive Pennsbury experiences as well. Studying abroad undoubtedly helped foster new friendships, enriched my learning experience, opened my mind, and instilled great confidence in me, which, in turn, helped my transition to college tremendously.
I attended college at Lock Haven University and studied German and English, earning a B.S. in Education for both. Loved my time at The Haven! During my junior year, I studied abroad at the Universität Paderborn in Paderborn, Germany and graduated with experience student-teaching at Bensalem High School (English) and Medill Bair High School / Pennsbury (German).
After spending a year teaching English at Bensalem, I was happy to come back home, teaching German in one of the same classrooms I once sat as a timid sixteen year old. Throughout my years at Pennsbury, I added English and Service Learning to my resume and have chaperoned the summer school abroad trip in Germany.. Recently I went back to graduate school at Arcadia University and added an M.A. in English to my studies.
At present I live in the Pennsbury community with my husband and two daughters. When I'm not Deutsch sprechen, I'm playing with the Kinder or redecorating the house. I'm not the most athletic or adventurous soul but I enjoy art, reading, and photography. I'm inspired by Thich Nhat Han, The Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle and Dr. Oz.. Some dislikes are: math, squirrels, violent movies, sinusitis, mosquitos and Monday Night Football.
At Pennsbury I enjoy teaching German, serving as Department Chairperson of the World Language Department, advising the German Club and coordinating the GAPP Program.
Naja...genug über mich!
